Biopapua / New departure
22 September 2010
September 22, 2010
Escorted by dolphins, the new BioPapua science team leaves the smoking volcano of Rabaul on the evening of the 21st of September. On the morning of the 22nd, we successfully start our work off Rabaul, west of Duke of York Island. The first specimens represent a diversified fauna, and we get a good harvest of sunken wood. This first day allowed everyone to find their place within the team. At night, R/V Alis heads for Open Bay, west of New Britain, and starts mapping the area where we plan to work on the next day.
