Logbook "MADE" - D10

This morning, while sailing to a FAD, we first got a 20kg yellowfin tuna that we tagged with a miniPAT .

A few minutes later, we caught a 200kg marlin that we released without tagging as it is not a target species of the project. But what a nice fish and a great experience!

Early in the afternoon we found the FAD. We were going to start our research activities when a big storm came through again.

We had to leave the FAD and came back 2 hours later.

The underwater observations rapidly indicated that there is a big aggregation with thousands of fish. We counted about half a dozen sharks and tuna feeding in the vicinity of the FAD.

We start fishing just before dusk and we could tag

  • 2 sharks,
  • 1 yellowfin tuna
  • and 2 oceanic triggerfish.

We have started the observations with the echo sounder that will last for some of the night. We will stay around this FAD that looks promising during the night to wortk on it early tommorrow morning.
