The retrovirus laboratory of IRD (Institut de recherche pour le développement, ex-ORSTOM) at Montpellier has, for the first time, identified in vivo a strain of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV-1) which results from a recombination between two Aids viruses which are genetically widely different.
