On Friday 11 March, from 09:00 to 11:00 (French time), the third CoSavez-vous? scientific seminar will be held on the theme "Black Carbon: the dark side of human activity".

SCIENTIFIC SEMINAR #3: Questions / debate

Friday 11 March 2022 from 09:00 to 11:00 (UTC+1)

Black Carbon: the dark side of human activity

Fine particle pollution is responsible for the deaths of about 4 million people per year and is now the leading cause of non-communicable diseases. Among the fine particles, carbonaceous aerosols emitted during combustion processes contribute to climate change. Moreover, after a short time in the atmosphere, most of these particles end up in the ocean, where they alter many physical-chemical and biological processes. The regular periods of high air pollution experienced by many Asian countries have become a matter of public and governmental concern over the past decade. However, the ways in which this awareness is translated into policy decisions and new regulations vary considerablyfrom country to country.

The exhibition Black Carbon: The Dark Side of Human Activity, which aims to raise awareness among citizens and decision-makers in South-East Asian countries about a problem that is still largely underestimated or even unknown, takes stock of what is known about this pollution. This exhibition highlights the need to address this issue from different angles simultaneously in order to identify the co-benefits of reducing emissions. This seminar will be an opportunity to share our experience and to ask ourselves how to break down the barriers between our disciplinary approaches in order to address these multi-SDG issues.

The "CoSavez-vous?" seminars are weekly one to two hour scientific webinars organised by the IRD Knowledge Communities (CoSav).

The concept :

An idea

Each seminar aims to focus on the crossing of disciplines and points of view with the participation of two or more speakers.

A theme

Each CoSavez-vous? seminar addresses open themes to attract the interest of several knowledge communities with an interdisciplinary or even transdisciplinary approach.

For you

All those interested in the themes addressed by the knowledge communities, in particular CoSav members, and more broadly for all members of Planet IRD and beyond.
