IRD has been present in Vietnam since 1995.
IRD researchers develop projects in collaboration with their Vietnamese colleagues in the social, exact, health and environmental sciences sectors, with the aim of co-constructing and sharing original scientific knowledge that can be applied to the sustainable development of the country.
IRD is also present in the teaching and supervision of Vietnamese students and young researchers, in the support for the creation of innovative research teams, in the financial or human support to their programs and in the development of multidisciplinary and international networks of scientists.

In figures, IRD in Vietnam consists of 15 expatriate researchers, 20 local staff contracts, 8 representation staff, 20 missions of more than 2 months and 100 short missions per year, 2M€ / year of managed contracts including 300k€ in direct support to partners, 1200 hours of Master courses, 32 PhD students, a community of 300 researchers in 10 joint laboratories.
