The International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (icipe), one of the long-standing partners of IRD in Kenya and East Africa, celebrated its 50th anniversary in November 2020. Valérie Verdier, IRD CEO, congratulated this excellent scientific institute.

The anniversary was celebrated during a ceremony attended by many officials including Dominique Dumet, IRD representative in Kenya. Valérie Verdier sent a congratulatory message in video (see from 2:43:45).

The CEO highlighted the excellent partnership between our two organisations and the promising future:

IRD relates concretely to icipe through commons goals: equitable research partnership, capacity building in Africa, science for excellence and sustainability in each action”.

Valérie Verdier also congratulated icipe for conducting “a science that serves both the academic world and civil societies, in Africa and in Europe”.

Paul Calatayud, an IRD entomologist who was based at icipe in Nairobi for a long time, also recorded a congratulatory message where he expresses his “gratitude to be part of the icipe family” (see from 2:48:02). Dr Calatayud was awarded outstanding partner of the year in 2019, for his scientific achievements and the exceptional collaboration with icipe scientists.

IRD looks forward to reinforcing and strengthening the collaboration with icipe.

Joyeux anniversaire !
