On Thursday 23 and Friday 24 June, IRD oceanographers working for the LOTUS International Joint Laboratory and the SOOT-SEA International Research Network South met and exchanged with their counterparts from the Department of Oceanography at Chulalongkorn University and the RU-CORE at Ramkhamhaeng University. The aim is to build future partnerships with these institutions.

A delegation of researchers composed of Marine Hermann (Oceanographer at UMR LEGOS, co-director of LMI LOTUS), Thanh Ngo-Duc (Climatologist at the Hanoi University of Science and Technology, co-director of LMI LOTUS), Sylvain Ouillon (Oceanographer at UMR LEGOS, Deputy Director of LMI LOTUS) and Xavier Mari (Oceanographer at UMR MIO, Coordinator of GDRI-South SOOT-SEA) went to Bangkok at the end of June to meet their counterparts from Chulalongkorn University and Ramkhamhaeng University.

On Thursday 23 June, IRD scientists met with their colleagues from the Department of Marine Sciences at Chulalongkorn University, whose activities were presented by Dr. Chawalit Charoenpong, and on Friday 24 June, with their colleagues from the Regional Centre for Climate Change and Renewable Energy (RU-CORE) at Ramkhamhaeng University, whose activities were presented by Dr. Jaruthat Santisirisomboon and Dr. Jerasorn Santisirisomboon.

During these meetings, the teams were able to discuss their respective research programmes, share their objectives and identify the points of convergence necessary to strengthen institutional collaborations between France, Vietnam and Thailand in the field of marine and atmospheric sciences.

The development of such a trilateral partnership will enable a regional approach to be deployed around major shared environmental issues and thus amplify the impact of initiatives carried out in Southeast Asia.
