Summary

This online course, open to all, is aimed at research actors who wish to develop economic activities based on their scientific results or related to their work. You can follow it on FUN-MOOC starting from May 13, 2024!

The IRD and Kedge Business School lauch the MOOC « Science and Entrepreneurship: the Fundamentals » aims to support young scientists and research professionals worldwide in the entrepreneurial universe. It specifically aims to raise awareness among Ph.D. students, researchers and professors, as well as engineers, technicians, and innovation managers, about the tools for entrepreneurship based on research results. Through video interventions by economic experts, business leaders, financing specialists (especially in Africa), and business coaches, the MOOC reviews the principles of validating a need and a market, the steps to prototype a solution, and how to present it to approach strategic partners, especially financial and technical ones.

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Design and finance a research-action project with innovative potential.
  • Assess their market potential and validate the needs of their beneficiaries or users.
  • Define their value proposition and test their business model.
  • Prototype and present their solution to approach strategic partners, especially financial and technical ones.

Participants who complete all modules and successfully answer the quizzes will receive a course completion badge. Ph.D. students can also count the 30 hours of teaching towards their doctoral program.

The IRD and Kedge Business School are behind this initiative. It was co-financed by the ACE Partner program (World Bank, AFD, AUA, IRD, Inria) and has received technical support from the Université numérique Cheikh Hamidou KANE (UN-CHK) (formerly known as the Virtual University of Senegal), and contributions from a steering committee composed of the Association of African Universities (AUA), the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF), Expertise France, the Campus AFD, the Africa Centre of Excellence on Technology Enhanced Learning (ACETEL, Nigeria), and the African Center of Excellence on Climate Change, Biodiversity, and Sustainable Agriculture (CEA-CCBAD, Côte d’Ivoire). This is the second MOOC in the series “Transversal Skills for Research Professions” offered by the IRD on the FUN-MOOC platform. The MOOC is also available in French (and in Spanish by first semester of 2024).
