In the run-up to the World Water Forum to be held in Bali from May 18 to 24, IRD is organizing an online press conference on Monday April 29, 2024 at 10am (Paris time). An opportunity to take stock of the state of water resources in the Global South.
Water is essential to health, well-being and the functioning of ecosystems and our societies. Research plays an essential role in sustainable water management. IRD's work provides solutions to societal, political and environmental issues, in order to inform public policies on water governance.
To take stock of this essential resource to societies and ecosystems in Global South, a press conference on the theme "Water resources: where do we stand?" will take place online Monday April 29 at 10 a.m (Paris time).
Speakers
- Valérie Verdier, IRD’s Chairman of the Board and CEO: context and issues
- Yves Tramblay, hydrologist, research director at IRD: inventory of water resources
- Jean-Philippe Venot, specialist in water and irrigation governance and policy, researcher at IRD: hydrological risks, adaptation and water governance
- Insaf Mekki, co-director of LMI NAILA in Tunisia: water resource management in rural areas
- Elisa Armijos, hydrologist at the Geophysical Institute of Peru (IGP) and head of the HYBAM observatory in Peru: monitoring Amazonian rivers and water resources
Presentations will be followed by a Q&A session.
